SPI’s Frequently Asked Questions - SPI Property Inspections

SPI’s Frequently Asked Questions

Are you wondering why you should select SPI Property Inspections to conduct the inspection of your potential investment? Perhaps you’re wondering what our experience is, how quickly we can carry out the inspection and what areas we cover. To answers some of these questions, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to ease your stress and explain why you’re selecting the right inspection company for the job.

Why should you choose SPI Property Inspections to carry out your inspection?
All of our inspectors have the essential skills and knowledge to carry out your inspection – they know how buildings go together and how they can fall apart!  They are happy to explain their findings and answer your questions, so you can make an informed decision about your purchase or construction project. We have also developed our own, custom-built inspection report application that can be completed on-site, via an iPad.  This application has been developed by our inspectors themselves – not something purchased off-the-shelf – so you can be assured that it incorporates all the essential elements needed for a thorough inspection.

What are our credentials/experience?
We are professionals in the building industry, which means we have actual on-site experience. Collectively, our team of property inspectors has over 150 years of building experience in building construction, renovations and extensions, and to date we have carried out over 9,000 building inspections.

Is there a Money-Back Guarantee?
We offer a 100% money-back guarantee on the services we provide, so if you are not completely satisfied with our service, we will give you your money back.  We are also covered by $1m professional indemnity insurance.

What geographic areas do we cover?
We cover a wide range of locations from metropolitan Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula, to Northern Victoria, North-East Victoria, Geelong, Ballarat and Central Victoria.

How do you get the Report?
If you are available to meet on site, the Property Inspector can go through the report verbally, immediately after the inspection and clarify each point raised. If you are not able to meet on site, the Property Inspector will phone you after the inspection and go through the report verbally. In both situations, the Inspector will then email you a copy of the report.

How do you pay?
SPI Property Inspections accepts credit cards – Visa, Mastercard but not AMEX or Diners Card. Payment can also be made in cash, cheque or by internet transfer. An invoice will accompany your report and we ask that you please advise us of your report number when transferring money, for tracking purposes (or we may not realise that you have paid).

What do you do about building certification?
You need to get a Building Surveyor to issue a building permit and final Occupancy Permit. We can provide suggested names of Building Surveyors if required.
