About Us
The company we know as SPI Property Inspections, began its days as Superior House Inspections. It was founded in 2002 by Colin Legg, who continues today as Director of the company.
Colin has worked in the building industry for close to 50 years. He has a number of Award recognitions to his name, and has been a Judge for the HIA Victorian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards since 2013.
Helen Legg joined the business in September 2009, and in late 2010 became Colin’s wife and joint owner of SPI. Colin and Helen met at BNI, a business network group, and were able to successfully combine business and relationship networking!
Helen’s background is in project management and marketing communications, and for over 12 years, she worked in the construction and engineering industries. In 2012, Helen was Runner-Up in the Business Partner of the Year Award in the HIA Awards.

The SPI team has now grown to 25 people, including building inspectors across Melbourne and Central Victoria, and an office team managing the bookings, marketing and administrative functions.
Our current team of contract Inspectors comprises registered builders and/or accredited architects, who have all held positions of authority within the building industry prior to joining SPI. They are therefore skilled at identifying issues and making decisions. To date, the SPI Inspector team has carried out over 25,000 building inspections.
We also have the capability to engage additional contract Inspectors for project work, as required. These Inspectors are trained in the SPI systems and carry out inspection work according to SPI's standards of operating.
SPI Property Inspections is a member of the Master Builders' Association Victoria and the Housing Industry Association, Australia's largest and most respected housing industry organisation.
