How To Select A Property Inspector

A building inspection is a simple and essential step that shouldn’t be overlooked when buying property. However, you may be unaware that the building inspection industry is not regulated in Victoria so it’s important to choose a registered builder who is insured and has on-the-job experience in the industry. You will need someone who can identify those faults or potential problems that, if over-looked by an untrained eye, could result in costly damage in the months ahead.

Some key things to ask when selecting a reputable property inspection company include:

  • Do you employ Registered Builders?
  • What experience do the Inspectors have?
  • How long has the business been operating as an inspection company?
  • Are you covered by professional indemnity insurance?
  • Can you provide me with a sample report?
  • What is the process for inspection and receiving the report?
  • How do I pay for the inspection?
  • Can I attend the inspection?

SPI Property Inspections began its days in 2002 and to date, our inspectors have undertaken over 7,000 building inspections. The company comprises 9 people, including building inspectors across Melbourne metro, Ballarat, Geelong, Mornington Peninsula and Central Victoria, and an office team managing the bookings, marketing and administrative functions.

Our inspectors are all Registered Builders and collectively have over 150 years of building experience, along with a wealth of knowledge about the trade and building best practice. SPI Property Inspections is a member of the Master Builders’ Association and the Housing Industry Association, Australia’s largest and most respected housing and industry organisation.

We have a range of building inspection types available to our clients, ranging from:

We have a 4-step process for booking and completing your inspection in a timely manner. Once it is booked, our experienced inspectors will comprehensively inspect your home or commercial building. You are most welcome to attend towards the end of the inspection or if you can’t be there on the day, your inspector will provide a verbal summary. Following the inspection, your property inspection report will be emailed to you directly from our custom built mobile application within 24 hours of the inspection.
