SPI’s General Manager is a HIA Award finalist
Our General Manager, Helen Legg, was announced as one of the finalists for the HIA Business Partner of the Year Award 2018. We had a quick chat to Helen about her thoughts on this amazing achievement.
1.How does it feel to be a Victorian finalist for the HIA Business Partner of the Year Award? It was all a bit of a surprise as I hadn’t realised that Col (Director of SPI & Husband to Helen) and Marie (Operations Manager of SPI) had submitted an application on my behalf. When I was contacted by Stuart West from the HIA, notifying me that I had been selected as a finalist, I was delighted. The HIA is a highly respected organisation and I feel very honoured to be recognised.
2.Have you been nominated for an award like this before? I was nominated for the same Award in 2012 and came runner-up. It was just as exciting back then as we had only been building the SPI business for three years by that stage. We operate in a challenging industry so the successes are particularly rewarding.
3.Tell us a little more about what you do at SPI Property Inspections. My role at SPI Property Inspections is that of General Manager. I work with both the SPI team and The Home Inspection Hub teams to develop the overall business strategy for each company, and then work with the respective Operations Managers to drive the implementation. I’m also closely involved in the marketing and human resources areas, including the recruitment of new Inspectors. In such a competitive market, the quality of our team and our performance is critical and we all have to be nimble and responsive in the way we work. Our business has grown significantly over the past two years and we are proud of our achievements.
4.What’s in store for SPI for 2019- can we expect some new & exciting things? The coming year looks to be an exciting one for us all. The State election in November will determine the forward direction for Victoria in terms of infrastructure development, and SPI is keen to continue our active involvement in this area. We have delivered inspections for a number of the major roading and level crossing removal projects over past years and have developed a strong track record in this area. We also have plans to enlarge the scope of our inspection work with commercial properties across Victoria, providing owners, tenants and body corps with a one-stop-shop approach for all their building condition and maintenance requirements.
For The Home Inspection Hub, we will continue to carry out pre-purchase on existing homes and QA work on the various stages of new home construction. Victoria’s real estate market is starting to fluctuate and it is offering new opportunities for buyers who have previously been shut out of the market. We look forward to the chance to work with these new buyers and homeowners, to help them through the early establishment phase. 2019 may be a door-opening year – bring it on!
What happens now?
All finalists will meet at the awards night on Friday the 9th of November, with the Victorian winner announced.
The winners from each state awards then progress to the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards, which will be in Perth in 2019.
